7 Fall Trends for the Savvy + Splurge Shopper
Fall Fashion for 2022
Each season I collect the latest fashion trends for new ideas in Chapter 50 style so we don’t revert back into our yoga pants and 2020 Monday through Sunday t-shirts that we rotated on lock-down days. {May we never go back to those - EVER!}
I spread style finds around like butter on a warm piece of sourdough toast mixing in my trendy {purchasing on the savvy side}, along with the classic, long-wear pieces {splurge}.
2020 Fall Fashion Round-up
In these seasonal round-ups I find fashions for both ends of the savvy to splurge spending compendium and the Fall fashion trends for 2022 are upgrading style oldies from the 80’s {in a good way - not the parachute pants way 😝}
Chelsea boots are still at the top of the hits list, along with long blazers. And circling back around for 2022 is the penny loafer! They have re-entered the closet with a lift {no need to search for a penny though}.
Nordstrom has already prepped us with their Anniversary Sale in Fall and Winter wears, Along with stores all over are dressing mannequins in sweaters, pants, scarves, and coats. So while it’s hot and humid, and hotter still, Fall fashion is waiting in the wings.
Whether you’re adding one or four new pieces to your closet I’m here to share my seasonal Splurge or Savvy guide for your Chapter 50 wardrobe.
Fall Fashion Trends

Flared Jeans + High Waist Straight Leg Jeans
Oversized Vests
Long Blazers
Long cardigan sweaters
Penny loafers…Back and cuter yet {+ a height-up for us vertically challenged Mama’s}
Square Silk Scarves {add to ANY season}
Statement dress jacket
I’m slipping in a maybe at #8 because I’m not sure if Chapter 50 is ready for bucket hat style - Whatta you think?
Stocking hats have been a hit for the last four years, but now I’m seeing these bucket hats popping up everywhere. The younger crowd is sporting patterns galore in these hats {leopard, cow, stars}, but I’m taming mine down for a test wear.
Of course the real test comes when the temps drop here in the great white, snow-blowing North. Cute is great-n-all, but will it stay atop my head and keep me warm on a Chicago windy walk into the grocery store?
Where to find each Fall piece
1/ Flared Jeans Splurge (Mine} + high-rise straight Levi jeans {savvy}
When you find a perfect fit jean - you BUY THEM! And I loved the square pockets.
2/ Oversized Savvy patterned vest or Anthropologie Splurge {I love the Anthro one, but not sure I’d keep wearing long-term, so I’m test-wearing the Amazon savvy version 😉
3/ This savvy long Blazer {$70} returns to the style rotation, only on the oversized, instead of fitted measure. My red one is a Nordstrom favorite Splurge that I can’t link because it’s from my corporate days. And I’m bringing it out of retirement! Here is another option that’s between a Splurge & Savvy {$120}.
4/ Long and cozy cardigan sweater weather in brights {sale splurge} or tigers {splurge} of Anthropologie versus solid Amazon Savvy
{Breaking the fashion rules for your own comfort is a MUST! “They” say short women should avoid long sweaters because you look short. - ahh-well-it’s worth it!}
5/ The no-penny needed Loafers:: I went suede this decade around -Splurge This Shiny version and this pair are popular too on the Savvy side. To know me is to know my obsession with shoes. And seeing these loafers return to the Fall fashion trends for 2022 makes my toes tingle!
6/ A scarf for every occasion on Amazon {$9}. Nordstrom has cute options {$14}. And Kate Spade always brightens up a day for a Splurge buy. The savvy of all would be through Shein
7/ Statement Dress Jacket that I can’t wait to wear is this Halogen A-Line coat. It’s a perfect fit and has just enough texture to give it pizazz! This Savvy and versatile coat will have you ready for all events. If you love pops of color when you have to bundle up month after month this one is your 2022 Fall trend buy. {My wine colored coat is no longer available :(}
And that brings me to the Fall addendum piece…
The Bucket hat instead of my go-to stocking hats.
I’m always up for a style experiment and this one feels soft and snug for a frigid Chicago winter, so I’ve added it to my Fall and Winter rotation.
Fall is a short but glorious season, be ready for it by grabbing at least one new piece as insurance from pulling on your yoga pants + your 1992 college sweatshirt everyday in Fall.
