I have a very small walk-in closet and hot-air-balloon-size excitement for shopping.
What’s a girl to do?
Invent ways to get more space out of a tiny closet, or course.
Clear The closet {before you organize}
The key to organizing a small closet {or big} is clearing everything out first.
This isn’t anyone’s favorite task. Not even the rainbow crew of the Home Edit show gush about the purging process. But it’s gotta be done.
First lesson:: If you haven’t worn it in the last year - purge it!
You can, of course, choose not to purge before you organize a small closet. People chose to live in chaos everyday. No shame at all, but you’ll lose that oh so fluffy cloud feeling when you’re looking at an all-new-empty canvas to paint. The empty closet canvas, waiting to be filled with the colors of your wardrobe.
CLEAR! IT! OUT!
{I was really yelling that at me. I loathe cleaning out my closet, but it must be done.}
Next, Get creative with your hangers
Space Saver One
Head to the shower aisle at Target and get shower clips./rings.
Use shower curtain rings for a jean-hanging-dream. They take less space and the Target brand has a 2-tier notch to go through your belt loops and fold your jeans in half or hang from one loop.
Space Saver Two
Is the phrase, “off the hook” or “off the chain”?
When I attempt trendy quips I always get them garbled. But this off-the-chain-hanger idea will make you a hipster {even if it’s only in your own mind}.
It’s staggering how much space you can save with this set of four chain hangers that I found to hang my dress pants. The empty space at the bottom of the closet is filled and I made more jacket space for my two new blazers.😁
Space Saver Three
This hanger works for your belts, scarves, or ties {and pants, if you want to, since this one advertised as a pants hangers😉}.
You can see every scarf color at a quick glance.
If you don’t have empty wall space in your closet, attach a hook to the back of your closet door to hang it there.
Last way to organize a small closet…
Stack Seasonally
No sweaters or down coats needed in 90-degree Summer heat, so stack them high & in the back of the closet {if you have a guest room closet use that to store later seasons}.
All closets full?
Buy foldable storage bags with peek-a-boo windows to store seasonal wears and put them under beds, linen closet, or basement shelf.
