Is TSA PreCheck Application For Me?

TSA precheck application, airports, airplane

Should I or shalln’t I do the TSA PreCheck application?

If you fly more than three times a year, you MOST DEFINITELY want to RSVP to this invitation!

If you’ve ever gushed over the elaborate dresses on the red carpet at the Met Gala, then get the TSA PreCheck application filled out today and feel like royalty gliding through the TSA PreCheck red carpet at every airport for the next five years.

We may never walk the Met Gala red carpet, but walking through airport security three times faster than a non-PreCheck line and not stressing about missing your flight is almost the same thing.

If Givenchy, Versace, Oscar de la Renta, or Dior wanted to design a dress for me, I might, maybe, possibly, give up my PreCheck - if it was going to be a slow travel year. I’d also have to see the dress first.

And even then, it’s a BIG MAYBE!

If you’ve ever stood in a regular TSA line, this invite will rival ANY INVITE –or gown– from the Met Gala.

TSA PreCheck status also doesn’t cost anywhere near the $75,000 ticket for Met entry either.

If you’re not sure you want in on TSA PreCheck status, then let me give you a few of the amenities this party offers you::

1/ Your RSVP to TSA PreCheck is EASY, and can be done in your comfy pants, no makeup, messy bun, with a bowl of popcorn, sitting at home.

Click onto the TSA PreCheck website to fill out the application, and fill in your basic information.

2/ Once you’ve submitted your RSVP to the PreCheck party and been accepted, you’ll set up a time to talk to a TSA host.

You’ll make an appointment that fits your schedule to go into an enrollment center for an interview and be fingerprinted. Enrollment centers are located at an airport office.

3/ Party Day + Time to Chat

This time, you’ll want to dress well for your appointment {and leave the popcorn at home}. Party day has an interview and your photo op 📸

On your appointment day, you’ll bring 2 forms of ID {driver’s license and passport are easiest}, have an interview {a chat} with TSA, be fingerprinted for the background check, and pay the fee.

4/ After Your Meet & Greet, you can sit back, relax, and wait.

After your interview and wiping all the ink off your fingers, you can relax and wait to receive approval + your Known Traveler Number {KTN}. This usually takes 3-5 business days. However, following the pandemic-that-shall-not-be-named, it could take as long as 60 days.

You can always check your status if you’re curious.

5/ Once you receive your KTN, add it to your airline reservations. This is where you forget all about that Met Gala and fancy dress.

This is where airport magic happens!

With your KTN, you get that pretty green check mark {Pre✅, or sometimes just plain “TSA PRECHK”} on your boarding pass.

No matter how it’s printed, you get to whisk through airport security with your shoes on, 3-1-1 liquids inside your bag –along with your iPad– and you can leave your cute light jacket on.

All terrific perks, but the most spectacular, out of this world, fantastic perk…

Walking into the Orlando, Seattle-Tacoma, Phoenix, and La Guardia Airports {and all the other over-crowded airports}, seeing travelers 3-football-fields-long, tortoise-stepping their way through the regular security line.

And you get to walk over to THIS SIGN – where there are ONLY TWO PEOPLE in front of you 🙌🏼

I’ll see you in the fast lane!

Here’s Your Line {sign}

As of April 2024, the initial PreCheck cost is $78 for five years. Renewal is $70 online and $78 if renewed in-person.

TRAVEL SAVING TIP:: ***Before filling out the TSA PreCheck application, check to see if your credit card pays for your pre-check fee. Some credit card companies include that in the perks of the card***

Flying international more than three times a year?

One last perk to think about…Add on Global Entry {$120 total for PreCheck + Global} for five years. International checkpoints can be even longer than domestic.

When you return to the US after a long fun trip, save time and sanity to skip ahead, scan your face, and be on your way.

As of October 1, 2024 children under 18 get Global free when traveling with a Global parent.

Be the hare - not the tortoise - in this line.
